August News from the SAS

The Archaeology Centre (1-1730 Quebec Avenue) is open Monday to Thursday from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm and on Fridays by appointment. Staff can still be reached via email or by phoning the office (306-664-4124). We are a mask-friendly facility and ask any visitors to please wear a mask when visiting the office. Disposable masks are available for visitors at the office.

August 8 – in lieu of weekend excavations

Fort Carlton Public Excavations

Registration is now open for the 2022 public excavations at Fort Carlton Provincial Park. Join the SAS in August on site! Full details and registration are available on the field school page.

Chapter News

Points Saskatchewan Archaeological Society:

Prince Albert Historical Society: We continue to offer downtown walking tours on Sundays and Thursdays at 11am and 2pm. These tours take you through the downtown area and offer history about early Prince Albert. Tours run about 1.5 hours and are $2/person. The Rotary Museum of Police and Corrections, Evolution of Education Museum and the John and Olive Diefenbaker Museum will close for the summer season on Friday August 26th. The Historical Museum will close for the summer season, on August 31st. Winter hours (9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday) will start September 1.

Regina Archaeological Society: Members of the RAS have been invited to join Hugh Henry as he “Walks the shores of Lake Diefenbaker” August 14 -19  He has mentioned if there is enough interest there is the possibility of visiting the Houghton Medicine wheel. If you think this is something you would like to do this summer contact Hugh for further details and to register at h.henry@sasktel.net. To end the walk Jack and Alice Trusty have invited participants from the walk, RAS members and APSAS members to a BBQ at their cabin in Mistusinne on August 19th.Please contact Alice for  details and to pre-register at j.trusty@sasktel.net.
