Bailey Pelletier is a proud Nehiyaw iskwew (Cree woman) from Cowessess First Nation located in Treaty 4. Bailey has over 8+ years of both studying and working within archaeology to not only survey, excavate, and work with collections across the Northern Plains, but to also collaborate and work alongside Indigenous communities in varying roles. Working with belongings (artifacts), collections, and many communities across Canada, Bailey has felt more connected to her Indigenous heritage and ancestors. Bailey graduated in March of 2024 with her master’s degree in Archaeology from the University of Saskatchewan with a focus on lithics in the Northern Plains. Bailey also has 2 years of experience working in cultural resource management and for the 2025 field season she had the opportunity to work alongside communities through ground surveys using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Shallow Subsurface Soil Spectrometry (S4) technologies to locate unmarked graves connected to the atrocities of Residential Schools. Doing this important work over the last few months has been one of the most meaningful opportunities she’s had in archaeology, especially as an intergenerational survivor. Bailey is extremely excited and motivated to join the SAS team as the new Community Engagement Assistant.
